Today we are living in a digitally connected world. Technology has penetrated every aspect of human life, be it just a cab booking, ordering for food, business transaction of commercial nature, banking transactions or just the home-work or other such assignments for school kids, there is an app and a network based technology behind it. Computer literacy is an integral part of general literacy itself. Even if you are actually literate, if you do not know how to handle a mobile, use an app or see a menu in the laptop, then you are nobody in the society. In this backdrop, DiSAI (Digital Security Association of India), a non-profit organization, has taken it upon itself the task of spreading awareness on the safe and secure use of computers and mobile phone, crimes related to network based transactions and everything concerned with technology based crimes and laws.

Especially in corporate circles, everyone needs to be technologically equipped to handle the various types of technologies in common use in fulfillment of his duty not just in the organization but in his private life too. This programme will provide an overview about the different types of cybercrimes, emerging trends in the cyber space particularly from a techno legal perspective, and the ways and means to combat the threats and safeguard one’s information assets. With this objective in view, the one-day programme has been drafted with adequate inputs on the types of cybercrimes, basics and fundamentals in an electronic crime scenario, broad overview of Information Technology related regulations in India and specific guidance on what to do in the event of any data theft or other kinds of victimization in a digitally networked world. The course is mainly intended for those in the corporate circles with a basic knowledge of computers and related technologies and does not envisage a deeper knowledge or skill in computer programming or other kinds of hardware or software inputs. Reasonably educated users of computers and social networking sites, e-commerce sites and other domains either in their individual capacity or representing their organizations, would certainly be benefitted from this course. The course will consist of interactive lecture sessions with power point presentations that would be easy to understand, group discussions or panel discussions to look at the entire gamut of cybercrimes from various perspectives besides a fundamental and non-technical session on digital evidences like laptop or computer forensics and mobile forensics.


The objective of this one day workshop is to

1.   Create awareness on information security.


2.   Build the skills to enhance the knowledge on digital security related legislations in India including the proposed laws and rules


3. Preparedness to face any cyber threat


4.   Get an idea of IT related laws in the country especially how corporate employees and common man will benefit from it including the remedies available


5.   Provide inputs on how to react in the event of any cyber-attack and the legal scenario including how to collect evidences to proceed further legally




The comprehensive programme will consists of the following sessions

·         Fundamentals of cybercrimes: Meaning and definition

·         Law and Technology: How they are closely aligned

·         Data privacy in a networked environment

·         Information Technology Act and the IT Amendment Act 2008 and other IT related enactments for the corporate world

·           The proposed Personal Data Privacy Act

·        Crime prone areas in e-commerce and security concerns

·         Digital Evidence and Cyber Forensics for organizations


The workshop is administered through interactive sessions supported by visual aids, discussion on case studies, practical examples and scenarios from decided cases and reported news items. Participants will be encouraged to share their experiences, knowledge and skill which will not only enhance the course contents but also make the sessions lively besides enhancing the quality of take-aways from the programme.


For Whom: 


The programme is of non-technical nature, designed for middle level managers and executives engaged in technology related work, e-commerce transactions, funds remittances or otherwise using the technology in the normal day to day business of the organization. Participants in the programme will be able to handle to disseminate the knowledge on these areas to their colleagues at any later date.

Facilitator Profile:

Mr Shri V. Rajendran is an M.A. B.L. M.Com with CAIIB. A certified cyber forensic examiner from IDRBT, Hyderabad and a CeISB from Indian Institute of Banking and Finance, CISP from STQC, Govt of India, a Diploma holder in IT Law and a lead auditor in ISMS (ISO 27001). Worked for over three decades in Indian Overseas Bank, including mainly in the I.T. Department, in domains like Info System Security etc. After quitting the bank as Chief Manager Systems, in 2008, started practice as an advocate mainly handling cybercrime and banking security related cases and as a consultant on banking law, practice, technology and IS Security Policy.

Has contributed articles in various academic and professional journals and appeared in electronic and print media on ATM frauds, cybercrimes, cyber laws etc. Has authored the book on "IT Security” for bankers and "Cyber Crimes and Fraud Management in Banks” both published by Indian Institute of Banking and Finance, Mumbai, as the study material for the IIBF certificate courses, and available in book-stalls.

A Guest Faculty in IIBF and academic institutions including the Police Training Academy, industry bodies like CII, FICCI etc and training colleges of various banks. Past President of Cyber Society of India and currently the Chairman of Digital Security Association of India.
